Shalom Albright,
There are several "chronological bibles" available, either in your local Bible bookstore or you can go to christian discount bookstore and order on line.
What I like to do, is go in person and see the Bible I want then I order from CDB, usually at quite a noticeable discount even including shipping and handling. :o)

What about the "unknown god" of Acts 17: |
Answer |
Acts 17:23 |
Mark51 |

Athens was the center of Greek learning, literature and art. It became a university city fill with professors, lectures and philosophers. The state controlled religion and encouraged it by paying for public sacrifices, rites, and processions in honor of the gods.
Idols were to be found in temples, public squares, and on streets-of which people regularly prayed to. The people feared the deities and in order not to offend any of the gods, they built an altar inscribed: “To an Unknown God.” They even erected altars to deify the abstract: Fame, Modesty, Energy, Persuasion, Pity etc. This is the altar that Paul pointed out tactfully that this Unknown God was about whom he was preaching about. This subtle approach was prudent due to their cultural religious beliefs.

Hello ovadyah,
OK, you're doing it again, so let's cut to the heart of the matter.
Christ is the fulfillment of the Law. (You have already agreed to this.)
If he is the fulfillment, what is the point of keeping it except what has been explicitly directed to Christians in the epistles? Note that Paul was rather specific about what he wrote.
How much of the Law is to be kept? Gentiles are not expected to live like Jews (see Galatians 2:11-14; Acts 15).
What is your personal purpose for desiring to keep the Law? You have already said that it is not necessary for justification or sanctification. Are you doing it just because you can?

Difference between guilt and conviction? |

Shalom EQ1,
We are learning (I would hope) to not take our Bibles and hit people over the head with it :o)
Tho we have all done that in the past, I'm sure, at one time or another.
Romans 8:1
There is therefore, now no condemnatin ...
If what you are hearing brings condemnation and hopelessness it is not from your loving Father.
He is not the One who condemns, He forgives, binds up the wounds and heals.
If what you're hearing tells you something is not quite right but here's how to fix it, then that would be the Holy Spirit that dwells in you, for He is there as your Guide and Comforter. John 14:16-18, 16:8-11 and 13-15, actually all of John chapters 14 thru 17 would be good reading on the subject of condemnation and conviction.

Val,
I totally agree in that his atonement has abolished the curse of the law not it's moral guidelines. That is the job of the false Christ who will usher in Lawlessness. We can't repent from Sin(breaking God's Law) and then willfully continuing breaking God's Law and claim that our faith abolishes morality(Rom.3:31). Our faith in fact produces good works(james 2) |

Peace to you EQ1, Paul informs us your state of guilt has caused a conviction from the Holy Spirit.
This is a good sign because it shows God's Law is written upon your heart. Your conscience is bearing witness
14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15 since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) (Rom.2:14-15)!!
Praise God,
Ovadyah |
